About Delta Fabrications
Delta Fabrications is one of the UK's leading specialists in architectural metalwork, delivering design, fabrication, and installation services across the construction, infrastructure, utilities, commercial, and residential sectors. Operating from a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Cambridgeshire, the company employs highly skilled fabricators, welders, and installation teams who work with a wide range of metalworking equipment and processes every day.
The Challenge
Fabrication workshops are inherently noisy environments. Employees at Delta Fabrications are regularly exposed to noise generated by welding, grinding, cutting, drilling, polishing, and metal finishing equipment.
While welding itself typically produces noise levels between 85–90dB, associated fabrication processes such as grinding and cutting can exceed 100dB. Prolonged exposure to these levels can significantly increase the risk of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) and tinnitus.
Alongside protecting employee hearing, Delta Fabrications faced several practical challenges common within fabrication environments. Traditional disposable earplugs generated ongoing replacement costs and relied heavily on correct fitting to achieve the required protection levels. In addition, employees regularly wear other personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmets, hard hats, face shields, and safety glasses, making comfort and compatibility key considerations when selecting hearing protection.
The Solution
Delta Fabrications partnered with Ultimate Ear to provide custom-moulded hearing protection for employees working within their fabrication and welding operations.
Each set of earplugs is individually moulded to the wearer's ears, providing a secure and comfortable fit while delivering certified noise attenuation appropriate for the working environment. Unlike disposable hearing protection, our custom earplugs offered a long-term reusable solution that helps reduce ongoing replacement costs while ensuring a consistent fit and level of protection.
