Impression Taking

As Ultimate’s products are custom made, it is necessary to take impressions of your ears in order to manufacture the plugs. If you wish to make an appointment for ear impressions, please place an order through our website and select ‘arrange an appointment for me’ under the ear impressions section when ordering. Our team will then be in touch to ask you for a few dates on which you are free, before proceeding to arrange the appointment on your behalf and emailing you all of the details.

If you have any questions about your local audiologist please call us on +44 (0) 1689 876885 or contact us and we will be delighted to help.  A list of the areas in the UK that our partner audiologists cover can be found here but please do not hesitate to call us on +44 (0) 1689 876885 or contact us if you are not UK based, we cover the world.

Prior to the Impression Taking

In order to ensure your impression taking process runs smoothly there are a few steps you can take prior to the appointment. You can visit your local chemist in order to purchase ear drops.

Ultimate can also organise an ear wax removal service on your behalf to allow you to get ear impressions taken.  In order  to arrange this service simply call us on  +44 (0) 1689 876885 or contact us.

The Impression Taking Process

It is important to answer any initial questions the audiologist may have on the day to the best of your ability as this will ensure your safety. You may experience some minor sensations such as itching or tickling during the process but this is perfectly normal.

01

After a few initial questions, an inspection of your ears will be carried out by a trained operative to ensure it is safe to proceed.

02

We thoroughly inspect your ears.

03

A small foam stop on string is inserted part way into the ear canal to protect the ear drum and set the depth for the impression material.

04

Your ears are then inspected again before moving onto stage 5.

05

Medical grade silicone material is then dispensed slowly into the ear, filling the cavity and capturing the internal shape. You will experience a significant reduction in your hearing and a sensation of fullness in your ears whilst the material cures.

06

The impression material takes approximately 5 minutes to cure.

07

Once set, we ask you to wiggle your jaw. Following this the mould is carefully removed from the ear, with the foam stop. Our specialist will then check your ears one last time.

08

Your ear impressions will then be given to you for you to send in to our HQ.
